MCIT's Basic IT Skills Training Program Allows Trainees to Obtain ICDL

Dr. Ahmed Nazif, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, witnessed today the signing of 18 agreements for cooperation in the field of human resources development training on basic IT skills. The Agreements were signed between the Ministry and the 12 Egyptian universities, Mubarak City for Scientific Research, the Electronics Research Institute, the National Research Center, the Central Authority for Public Mobilization and Statistics, the National Telecommunications Institute and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime.
In August 2001, 49,000 students completed their training, in locations spread all over Egypt. A new round of the training program will start next month targeting 6000 trainees.
New developments have been introduced to reinforce the training program content, allowing excelling students to pursue advanced studies to obtain the International Computer Driving license (ICDL).
ICDL is designed to ensure relevance to the working realities of our world and keep abreast with the advances in technology; it covers the key and latest concepts of computing, their practical applications and use in any workplace. It consists of seven modules, each of which must be passed before the certificate is awarded. UNESCO is the international organization authorized to award the certificate.
The Basic IT Skills Program is part of the Human Resources Development Project which is one of the major components of the National CIT Plan. The program aims at exposing students to basic IT skills and Internet usage to allow them to gain better opportunities in the job market. MCIT offers the training program at no cost.
